Iodine is needed for the production of thyroid hormone. It is released from the body through the urine .thyroid nodule single and multiple are associated with change in urinary iodine excretion. The best way to determine iodine deficiency across a large population is to measure the amounts of iodine in urine sample. The aim of this work was to measure the iodine excretion in patient with multinodular goiter and single nodule in comparison to normal subjects. History taking, clinical examination, thyroid ultrasound, thyroid function test, urinary iodine excretion were done to all subjects. The results showed that the urinary iodine excretion in patients with multinodular and single nodule goiter is significantly lowered than in control subjects. So the conclusion of this work can be that iodine deficiency is decreased in all patients with nodular goiter either with euothyroid or hypothyroidism than the normal subjects.
