Abstract

The long-term use of corticosteroids is associated with many adverse sequalae , two major complications in renal transplant patients , are excessive weight gain and osteoporosis. In the last decade, a paradigm shift has occurred in the field of renal transplantation, the use of new and powerful immunosuppressive drugs have led to excellent short-term patient and graft survival. Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry bone mineral measurement is an unique , non invasive method in detecting bone mass disorder. In this study we evaluate BMD in steroid free and steroid treated renal transplant patient. This study include 20 renal transplant patients divided into two groups : ( Group I ) : 10 patients with steroid free therapy, ( Group II ) : 10 patients with steroid treated therapy, both group will be subjected to : history , clinical examination and investigations including DXA at 3 months and 6 months after transplantation.
