Abstract

Bleeding esophageal varices is one of the major health problems in Egypt where schistosomiasis and hepatitis-C virus-related chronic liver diseases are prevalent. It results in great morbidity and mortality despite different therapeutic options. Endoscopic injection of histoacryl is widely used to stop bleeding esophageal varices although it has many complications. The technique of EVL was developed to achieve arrest of bleeding in an efficacy similar to or better than injection therapy with fewer complications.
