Abstract

Extraesophageal manifestations of GERD include respiratory manifestations (cough, wheezing, aspiration); ear(glue ear), nose(chronic sinusitis), nasopharynx (mucosal oedema and inflammation, leading to secondary obstruction of sinus ostia) and throat manifestations (hoarseness, laryngeal spasm, stridor , recurrent croup, subglottic stenosis, sore throat, otitis media); and dental manifestations (enamel erosion). The combination of antioxidant and antisecretory medications (Omeprazole , Ranitidine) is the treatment of choice in the prevention and treatment of reflux oesophagitis. Stress on oro-nasal complications is important to make broad understanding of this problem to E.N.T specialists to improve the quality of patient care and to prevent confusion with other diseases.
