Recent advances in genetics have demonstrated that ischemic stroke is under a genetic influence. This case-control study, carried out on 30 ischemic stroke patients and 17 healthy controls, attempted to find an association of ACE and B-fibrinogen genes polymorphisms with ischemic stroke in Egyptian patients. Also to detect the effect of these polymorphisms, together with other stroke risk factors on the functional outcome of the patients. Results: ACE I/D polymorphism was positively associated with ischemic stroke, whereas B-fibrinogen G/A-455 was not. Several stroke risk factors and the larger sizes of infarction were strongly associated with a poor outcome of stroke.
