MRI is gaining increasing use in the past several years. It is an accurate, informative and safe modality used in the imaging of the musculoskeletal system in general and in the hip joint in particular. This study included 30 patients, who underwent conventional radiography and MR examination on 1.5 T and 1.0 T magnets. Selected cases underwent CT and bone scan studies according to the patient's clinical condition. MRI provided an accurate diagnosis of all cases. It can assess the articular and peri-articular components of the hip joint. MR images can be obtained in any plane and the joint can be assessed with out the use of contrast agent.
