This study was done to evaluate the association between iron level in the blood and in the liver tissue in different chronic hepatic diseases other than hemochromatosis and to establish if there is an etiologically based relation. This study included 60 patients,They were classified into two groups . Group I suffering from chronic hepatitis C +/- liver cirrhosis and Group II with hepatocellular carcinoma on top of cirrhotic liver. It was found that there was a positive correlation between grade of histological activity of chronic hepatitis , transferrin saturation, TIBC and iron overload status within the liver tissue in chronic hepatitis group. There was a negative correlation between grade of differentiation of hepatocellular carcinoma, TIBC and iron overload status within the liver tissue in hepatocellular carcinoma group.
