This study was conducted on 60subfertile ladies that were managed inKasr El-Aini hospital, Cairo University in a period of 20months (1/2012-8/2013) to investigate the diagnostic value of transvaginal sonographyperformed directly after diagnostic hysteroscopy, for assessing tubalpatency, and to compare the findings with those obtained by means oflaparoscopic chromopertubation. We found thatthe combination of hysteroscopy and transvaginalsonography in detecting, at least, one patent tube showed a significantstatistical difference in correlation to the result gained through laparoscopicchromopertubation (p value: <0.001). The test also revealed sensitivity of71.2 %, specificity of 100.0%, positive predictive value of 100.0% andnegative predictive value of 34.8 %.We concluded that this test is an easy, rapid, outpatient setting suitable fordetecting tubal patency. However, this method cannot ensure bilateral tubalblockage in case of negative test. In this condition, another method of tubalpatency assessment should be offered e.g. HSG.
