The large number and variety of chronic cardiovascular and respiratory medications prescribed to patients presenting for surgery greatly complicate the preoperative assessment and anesthetic management of these patients. The various interactions of medications on metabolism and end effects must be understood and considered when formulating an appropriate anesthetic plan to avoid any complications postoperatively.
