Abstract

The scope of cytokine biology has wide spread applications. Now the need of the anesthesiologist to be familiar with effect of anaesthetic drugs on immune system is becoming important. It is difficult to differentiate between effect of surgery and anaesthesia. Our target is to show effect of inhalational and total intravenous on cytokine balance. The patients were divided into four groups 10 patients each. Two groups received TIVA and other two received inhalational using isoflorane. Blood samples were collected for cytokine measurement. Methods used were safe and standard. The results were better with TIVA in both groups (study and control) and it proved that anaestheic drugs had anaesthetic implications.
