Tracheal intubation is one of the most common medical procedures performed in hospitals. Hypoxic brain damage and death may result rapidly when the airway cannot be secured by intubation and face mask ventilation becomes difficult or impossible. Over the past 40 years, different techniques of managing the difficult airway have been introduced, the most effective under different conditions being fiberoptic intubation. The major barrier to its use is the lack of training and experience. So, the art of fiberoptic airway management should be a routine in anaesthesia training programs.
