Abstract

The study was conducted on 80 adult patients undergoing cataract surgery under local anesthesia (peribulbar anesthesia) divided into four groups, 20 patients in each group, comparing the efficacy and safety of articaine 4% in epinephrine 1:200,000 with or without hyaluronidase versus lidocaine 2% in epinephrine 1:200,000 with or without hyaluronidase . Results showed that articaine groups were better than lidocaine groups as regard onset and duration of action of local anesthetics, volume injected of local anesthetics, motor block and postoperative analgesia.
