Abstract

This is prospective study that included 10 patients who were suffering from acute abdomen highly suspicious of mesenteric ischemia after exclusion of other common causes of acute abdominal pain; these patients were subjected to diagnostic laparoscopy•Aim of the study: 1-Evaluation of the laparoscopy as a diagnostic tool in cases suspicious of mesenteric ischemia.2-Improvement of diagnostic modalities of mesenteric ischemia.•Patients and methods: Patients were subjected to diagnostic laparoscopy by umbilical incision 10 mm and application of exploring graspers using “hand to hand technique”, in case of positive diagnostic laparoscopy, patients were shifted to midline laparotomy, while in case of negative diagnosis, patient were subjected to follow up by close observation. •Results:The diagnostic laparoscopy succeed in diagnosing 6 cases as positive for mesenteric ischemia, 1 case negative for mesenteric ischemia, while 2 cases the diagnostic laparoscopy was not conclusive and there was a need to explore these 2 patients conventionally to confirm the diagnosis, while there was a case that laparoscopy gave a false negative diagnosis .
