Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effect of intratympanic injection of dexamethasone in cases of idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss where systemic steroids contraindicated. Methods: 11 patients were included and dexamethasone injected intratympanic once daily for 3 days, PTA done before and 2 weeks after injection . Results: 5 patients showed marked improvement, 3 had partial and 3 did not improve. This improvement was significantly associated in males than females, left ear than right ear and in those complained of vertigo and tinnitus at onset of HL before injection. Conclusion: Intratympanic injection of dexamethasone is an effective therapy in cases of ISSNHL.
