Abstract

Objective: there are two different approaches to place the dental implants. The purpose of this study was to compare between the effects of the flap vs. flapless implant surgeries using tissue punch technique on the soft tissue profile. Subjects and methods: In the present study, 12 implants were placed in 6 patients. Each patient received 2 implants. The implants were placed in the maxillary esthetic zone (two implants in the canine area, ten implants in the premolar area). The implants were 3.25 - 4mm in diameter and 10- 14mm in length. After 4 months of implant placement final cementation of the crown occurs (base line). The following measurements were taken at base line, after 2 and 4 months probing depth (PD), papillary index (PaI) and marginal level of soft tissues (ML), also Standardized Periapical radiographs were taken after implant insertion, final restoration (base line), after 2 and 4 months. Results: The flap technique showed statistically significantly higher mean probing depth and more apical shift of soft tissues than flapless technique while showed statistically significantly lower mean papillary index than flapless. Conclusion: It could be concluded that the flapless implant surgery results in better soft tissue profile compared to the flap technique.
