Abstract

This study was designed to evaluate the marginal accuracy and micro-leakage of all ceramic crowns with two different convergence angle and two different adhesive techniques. A total number of twenty freshly extracted caries free lower second molars were collected. The molars were prepared with standardized dimensions to receive full coverage crowns and were divided according to the degree of convergence angle into two main groups:Group I (n=10): received a preparation with a convergence angle 8 degree.Group II (n=10): received a preparation with a convergence angle 15 degree. Twenty anatomical crowns were constructed and cemented to the prepared molars. Each group was further subdivided into two subgroups according to the adhesive system used to cement the crown:Subgroup A (n=5) : cemented with total etch adhesive system (Variolink II).Subgroup B (n=5): cemented with self etch adhesive system (Multilink automix). For fabrication of the anatomical crowns we used split counter die for standardizing the coping and silicon mold for standardizing the veneering. All samples received 500 thermal cycles between 5oc to 55oc. Cervical marginal accuracy was examined before and after cementation using a stereomicroscope, and then the results were statistically analyzed. The samples were immersed in dye solution (methylene blue dye) for 24 hours. They were rinsed and sectioned longitudinally for assessment of micro-leakage using a stereomicroscope, and then the results were statistically analyzed. Results: showed that there was statistically non- significant difference in the microleakage scoring between the two adhesive systems and the two convergence angles. There was statistically significant difference between the two adhesive systems where total etch recorded lower vertical marginal gap than self etch and between two convergence angles, where15o angle recorded higher vertical marginal gap than 8o angle.
