Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of convergence angle 12° and 18° of tooth preparation on the internal fit and marginal accuracy of hybrid Enamicrestoration . Materials and Methods: Electron microscope was used to measure marginal gap and internal fit, tow metal dies constructed with two different total convergence angles 12°and 18°. Forty-four total samples was divided into two groups, twenty-two constructed hybrid ceramic via CAD/CAM system eleven for 12°and eleven for 18° .The other twenty-two PFM restorations were constructed by resin CAD wax for each convergence angle spruing, investing and casting were made for base metal coping . Then porcelain building was made. The crowns were held by a jig to measure the vertical marginal using gap by digital microscope. Data presented as mean, standard deviation (SD), Standard Error (SE), Minimum, maximum, Frequency and percentage values when appropriate. One way ANOVA followed by pair-wise Tukey's post-hoc tests were performed to detect significance between all subgroups. Vertical marginal gap results (Mean ± SD) measured in micron (µm) for both groups as function of occlusal taper angle and graphically drawn in (µm) data showed parametric distribution; Independent t-test used to study the effect of different convergence angle on two different materials on mean marginal gap and internal fit (MPa).Failure Mode evaluated using Chi square test. The significance level was set at P ≤ 0.05. Results: Irrespective of occlusal taper angle, totally it was found that PFM group recorded statistically non-significant (P>0.05) higher vertical marginal gap mean value (53.66± 6.59µm) than Enamic group which recorded vertical marginal gap mean value (51.95 ±5.98 µm) as indicated by two way ANOVA followed by pair-wise Tukey's post-hoc tests. Conclusions: The vertical marginal gap of hybrid ceramic improved with increasing the convergence angle of the preparation to 18°. The vertical marginal gap of PFM showed better result with decreasing convergence angle of the preparation to 12°.
