Abstract

Aim of the study: to evaluate the ability to retrieve fractured rotary instruments using two techniques : Meitrac I (Endodontic Safety System) and Ultrasonic technique. Also, to evaluate the Remaining Dentin Thickness after successful retrieval. Materials and Methods: F2 Protaper rotary nickel titanium files were intentionally broken in the apical one third of 60 mandibular and maxillary mesial canals. Two methods of retrieval were selected,ET25 U.S tips, n=30 and Modified Meitrac I (endo safety system), n=30. Vista scan Digital radiography was used to evaluate the success of retrieval process and the remaining dentin thickness after the retrieval. Results: Both techniques were 100 % successful in the retrieval of the broken instruments and the difference in the remaining dentin thickness after the retrieval process with each technique was of no significance. Conclusion: Both; the ET25 Ultrasonic Tip and the Meitrac I (Endodontic Safety System) proved efficient in retrieval of separated fragments.
