Transabdominal bowel sonography is a fast, efficient and cheap way of examining the intestines. It is also virtually free of hazard of radiation and well accepted by patients. It has been established as a procedure for early detection of inflammatory bowel disease. Also it could be used as a sensitive method for detection of other bowel diseases. It can also be used for follow-up and detection of complications of inflammatory bowel disease as fistulas and abscesses. Also the color Doppler technique could be used as tool for detection of the blood flow within the bowel wall as possible sign of inflammation.
