Abstract

This is a retrospective study carried out at Radiotherapy Department National Cancer Institute on 1009 patients treated for primary breast cancer between 1999-2003 with a median follow up of 68 months. The peak incidence of age was in the fifth decade (44.9%) then the fourth decade of life (22.8%). Premenopausal patients constitutes about one half of our patients (484 patients, 47.9%) while postmenopausal patients constituted 36.6%of cases, perimenopausal (156 cases). The commonest pathological type found in the majority of our patients (89%) was invasive duct carcinoma while invasive lobular carcinoma was found in 5.8% of our cases. As regard tumor size 514 patients (51%) had T2 tumors followed by T3 in 333 patients (33%) and only 70 patients (7%) had T1. Those with T4 tumor constituted 9% of the studied group.
