Background: insulin resistance syndrome is a cluster of risk including increased blood pressure, abdominal obesity , lipid abnormalities , and impaired glucose metabolism individuals with IRS have much higher risk for cardiovascular diseases , recently , an intriguing area of research in thyroidology is the association of IRS (or its related components) with thyroid functional morphological abnormalitiesObjectives: To evaluation the effect of insulin resistance syndrome on thyroid gland in euthyroid subjects and introducing the thyroid gland as another victim of insulin resistance syndromeMethods: A cross sectional study on 80 subject divided into 4 groups. All subject will be subjected to the following : clinical assessment, Anthropometric measurement in the form of (heght, weight, and waist circumference and calculation of BMI),laboratory in the form of (FT4, FT3, TSH, Fastig glucose, fasting insulin level, cholesterol and teiglycerides and estimation of HOMA IR), Thyroid ultrasound to evaluate thyroid volume and detect thyroid nodule. Results: the results of our study provid support for an association between insulin resistance and the thyroid volume and the thyroid nodularity, as our study presented a significant correlation between the degree of insularity, resistance measured by HOME-IR and the thyroid volume and the incidence of thyroid nodules in age controlled euthyroid females. Conclusion: Results of study demonstrated that volume of the thyroid gland and the incidence of thyroid nodules are positively correlated with insulin resistance.
