Abstract

The role of the family physician in encouraging a balanced diet and ensuring the adequacy of micronutrients in pregnant women is essential for minimizing pregnancy complications as the most important diseases of micronutrient malnutrition in the world today which is related to deficiency in the key vitamins as (vitamin A and vitamin B complex especially B12 and folic acid) and miner¬als as (iron and iodine). These diseases have strong relations to maternal health as they are more susceptible to the harmful consequences of deficiencies. Taking care of maternal health in all maternal stages may prevent serious birth defects.
