Abstract

Hepatic fibrosis is the wound-healing response of the liver to repeated injury. Liver fibrosis is classified into 2 main types; congenital and acquired. Liver fibrosis is associated with major alterations in both the quantity and composition of ECM. The pathogenesis of liver fibrosis depends on the underlying etiology. Hepatic stellate cells are the main ECM-producing cells in the injured liver. The first and most effective way to reverse liver fibrosis is to eliminate or suppress the initial stimuli.
