Abstract

The neuronavigation is a new tool used intraoperativly during neurosurgical operations. It helps the surgeon to navigate in the brain and reach lesions with minimal destruction to the surrounding neural tissue. This will be of great importance if the lesion is deep orpresent in eloquent areas of the brain responsible for movement speech, vision and sensation causing severe morbidity to the patient postoperatively. So in this thesis we will discuss the advantages andlimitations of neuronavigation, with special concern about highlighting the new modalities to be combined with the navigation system that will eventually lead to better neurosurgical outcome.
