MRI is the modality of choice in diagnosis and staging of extremity soft tissue sarcoma by the virtue of its high soft tissue contrast. It can accurately delineate muscle groups and distinguish among bone, vascular structures, and tumor. Also sagittal and coronal views can show the anatomic compartments in three dimensions.
