Abstract

This study was a cross sectional study, in which 50 severe obese children with BMI>97 th percentile, aged 4 to 12 years on Diabeetic Endocrine and Metabolic Pediatric unit (DEMPU). Faculty of medicine. Cairo University including were 26 females and 24 males, average age of (9.108) for males and (8.997) for females. To evaluate abdominal fat of obese children by ultrasound (US) through measuring visceral and subcutaneous fat layers and anthropometry and to compare ultrasound findings with those of anthropometry in obese child that best correlate with results of abdominal ultrasound. And to find a relation between biochemical parameters and obesity in children. Consents were obtained from children parents andthey were subject 1 to full clinical and anthropomerec including: weigh ,height, waist circumference, hip circumference, triceps, biceps and abdominal skin fold thickness, using he ultrasonograpay, the subcutaneous and the visccral fat thickness were obtained.The following laboratory tests were performed: serum lipid profiles(LDL, HDL, triglycerides and cholesterol), serum fasting glucose and serum fasting insulin were obtained.
