Abstract

Morbid obesity is a growing health problem worldwide. Clinical treatment with diet, exercise, and/or medication has not demonstrated sustainable clinically significant results. There is substantial evidence in the literature on the long-term positive impact of bariatric surgery as a primary therapy for the treatment of obesity and its comorbidities. Significant debate remains as to which patients are optimal candidates for which procedures. Laparoscopic greater curvature plication is a relatively new restrictive procedure that involves folding and suturing the stomach onto itself to decrease the size of the stomach.
