Intestinal transplantation is a life saving procedure for patients withchronic irreversible intestinal failure with life threating TP relatedcomplications. Short bowel syndrome is the most common cause forintestinal failure and thus, the main indication for intestinaltransplantation. The procedure can be done in pediatrics & adultpatients. Three types of surgical techniques are adapted to the needof the patients: isolated small Bowel transplant, combined graft withthe liver and multi-viseral graft that can be taken from cadavers orliving donors. GVHD, Rejection and PTLD are most importantcomplications. With the introduction of tacrolimus in the 1990s, anew chapter in intestinal transplantation began as it finally put thischallenging procedure into clinical acceptance by decreasing theincidence of rejection and increasing graft and patient survival ratesafter transplantation
