Abstract

Twenty-four controlled and 32 uncontrolled diabetic, beside 20 healthynondiabetic women and their infants were constituted the material of thepresent work. Cord blood was collected from the neonates delivered tothese mothers immediately after clamping the cord and serum levels ofinsulin and leptin were done. Results demonstrates that cord blood insulinand leptin levels are increased in infants of uncontrolled diabetics morethan infants of controlled diabetics and infants of nondiabeticcontrols.Also, significant increase in body weight, length, body massindex in infants of uncontrolled diabetics more than infants of controlleddiabetic and infants of nondiabetic controls was found.No significantdifference were found between male and female infants of all groups
