Abstract

Disturbance in the antioxidant system could play a role in pathogenesis of chronic liver disease. The aim of the study was to evaluate the serum selenium concentration in 20 patients with compensated liver disease, 20 patients with decompensated liver disease and 10 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. The results were compared with 20 healthy controls. Results: There was significant decrease in serum selenium level in hepatocellular carcinoma group morethan decompensated group more than compensated group when comparedto control group.
