Abstract

Ulnar styloid fractures accompany 51% to 65% of distal radius fractures, and represent another factor that may affect outcome. However, their role in the functional outcome of these fractures, is still unclear. Several clinical studies have concluded that a fracture of the ulnar styloid had no impact on anatomic, radiographic, or functional results when accompanying a distal radius fracture. Others have found ulnar styloid fractures to be associated with distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) instability and concomitant triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) tears.
