In this study ghrelin hormone level was assayed in seventy middle aged(30-50years old ) females. They were classified into: 30 females type2diabetes mellitus with BMI < 25Kg/m2, 40 non-diabetic females who werefurther subdivided according to their BMI into 20 lean (BMI < 25Kg/m2)and 20 overweight/obese (BMI > 25Kg/m2).The median levels of fastingplasma ghrelin, fasting serum insulin and insulin resistance showedstatistically significant difference between the three groups with fastingplasma ghrelin being highest in the diabetic group and lowest in theoverweight/obese non-diabetic group.
