Bronchial asthma is a chronic airway disease with an underlying inflammatory component. Its prevalence has increased dramatically recently imposing a huge burden on the patient, their family and society. The burden of asthma consists mainly of a decreased quality of life for the patient and their family, as well as high costs for society. Assessment of Quality of Life (QoL) can help the physicians in better understanding the results of their treatment not only in dimension of physical well being but also in spirit of treatment or QoL. Health related quality of life is an important measure in evaluations of the management of childhood asthma as it’s a chronic respiratory disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of impaired breathing. The disease causes psychological problems due to hospitalization, long term medication use and restricted social life. The aim of the work of our study was to detect the proposed impact of bronchial asthma on QoL of asthmatic children and their primary caregivers in Egypt. This study comprised 100 asthmatic children with intermittent, mild persistent, moderate persistent and severe persistent asthma aged from 8 to 13 years which represent the case group and 100 age and sex matched (non asthmatic) children which represent the control group.
