Recording of various liver diseases presenting to the PediatricHepatology Unit at Cairo University Children’s Hospital, which is atertiary referral center for pediatric liver diseases from all over Egypt. Itwas found that over a period of one year from the first of January to theend of December 2005, the commonest disorder presenting to the Unit in2005 was cholestatic disorders of infancy, which constituted 32.32 %,followed by acute hepatitis (29.1%), chronic viral hepatitis (10.2%),prolonged physiological jaundice (4.5%), glycogen storage diseases(3.8%), cryptogenic chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis (3%), other inbornerrors of metabolism (2.8%), portal hypertension secondary to portal veinobstruction (2.1%), autoimmune chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis (1.9 %),congenital hepatic fibrosis and polycystic disease of liver& kidney(1.7%), and miscellaneous (8.5%).
