A cohort prospective study was conducted in Gaza and north Gazagovernorates to identify the risk factors affecting delivery of low birthweight (LBW) infants. Through a randomized systemic sample, 590pregnant women in their 3rd trimester were followed up till delivery.Results revealed that the incidence of LBW was 8.6% and the significantrisk factors were preterm delivery, low social standard, passive smoking,anxiety, less then 2 antenatal care visits, premature rupture ofmembranes, fever, uro-genital infections, hypertension, eclampsia andpreeclampsia, vaginal bleeding and physical abuse.
