Introduction: Breastfeeding is the optimal way of providing ideal food for the health, growth, and development of infants while simultaneously benefiting the lactating mother. Exclusive breastfeeding should be the norm from birth until 6 months. Weaning is not sudden withdrawal of child from the breast but is a gradual process starting around the age of five months as mother’s milk alone is not sufficient to sustain growth beyond six months. This is a cross-sectional descriptive study aiming at exploring some factors related to nutritional status of children from birth to 24 months of age. Aim of the work: The objectives of the study were aiming to emphasize the importance of exclusive breastfeeding in first six months of life, also promote nutritional status of infants below two years of age.,and to investigate adequate weaning and continuity of breastfeeding to 24 months among Egyptian Mother Baby Dyad. Data management phase: was the data entry, analysis, interpretation for reaching the conclusion and recommendations and this phase extended from May 2013 to October 2013. Writing and editing the thesis May 2013 to December 2013. Results: It was found that the nurse and midwife are two main motivators for initiation of breastfeeding among urban and rural communities .Nurses significantly support breastfeeding among mothers from urban community while midwifes had a similar role among mothers in rural community, also Scheduled breast feeding is not offering best nutritional and emotional outcomes for both mothers and baby and should be discouraged, Mothers who were oriented about pumping of their breast milk were a minority .all what mothers need to know is about how to pump and safe storage of their milk Commonest weaning problems reported by mothers in urban community were that most of babies stopped breast feeding after giving supplements and have got reaction on first introduction of food. Conclusion: The nurse and midwife are two main motivators for initiation of breastfeeding among urban and rural communities .In this work nurses significantly support breastfeeding among mothers from urban community while midwifes had a similar role among mothers in rural community.
