This study included 20 eyes of 15 subjects, 60-65years old, coming out to the outpatient clinic of RIO. Eyes were divided into 2 groups: group A including 15 eyes with only senile cataract and group B including 5 normal eyes as control. Group A was further subdivided into 3 subgroups: 5 eyes with CC, 5 eyes with NC& 5 eyes with PSC. All subject were, pre-&postoperatively, assessed for best corrected visual acuity having to be equal to or better than 0.25, forward scatter (measured by straylight meter), contrast sensitivity (measure by VCTS chart& backscatter (assessed by slit lamp). results pointed out to that mean forward scatter (straylight parameter) was in the highest range for PSC, in the lowest range for CC& intermediate for NC. Conclusion, reproducible tests such as SCS & glare disability can be-and are recommended to be –used in assessing the need for cataract surgery, being adjuncts to visual acuity measurement which may underestimate functional visual impairment.
