Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of limbal relaxing incisions in reducing the preexisting astigmatism during clear corneal cataract surgery using Master Vue topography system for preoperative and postoperative follow up. 44 eyes with preexisting astigmatism and cataract were divided into two groups. The first group includes 24 eyes were LIUs combined with phacoemulsification for cataract extraction was done. In the second group incision through the steep meridian with phacoemulsificatio for cataract extraction were done. The follow up period was 6 months, during this period the patients were followed for vision, corneal topography, LRIs wound healing and complications. The results of both groups were analyzed regarding astigmatism, steep keratometric readings, flat keratometric readings, UCVA, BCVA, the safety and the efficacy of the procedures. The diamond knife used in LRIs was highly safe during surgery, corneal topography analyze the cornea properly regarding steep and flat areas, corneal power and corneal pathology such as keratoconus.
