Abstract

This study was conducted on 38 pregnant women with pulmonary hypertension that were managed in the high risk obstetric unit in Kasr El-Aini hospital, Cairo University in a period for more than 2 years (2009-2011) to identify the outcome of pregnancy as regard fetal and maternal complications. We found that incidence of complications increases with increased severity of the disease; the severity of PH had no impact on the mode of termination of pregnancy, 90% of cases had RHD & most of them did well through pregnancy & labor. All of the cases with PAH (4 cases) had a severe degree of the disease & half of them (2 cases) required therapeutic abortion. Fetal losses (2 cases) were due to preterm deliveries due to obstetric indications. No relation was detected between severity of PH & fetal outcome apart form that it was noticed that moderate & severe cases had lower fetal birth weight.
