Abstract

Cervical incompetence remains a difficult and taxing problem for obstetricians and cause great distress especially to women have recurrent late pregnancy loss. The diagnosis continues to be difficult until transvaginal ultrasound visualization of the cervix have been tested on the international level. Treatment appears to be effective and available in the form of surgical cerclage. No single procedure has proven to be superior to others and the choice depends largely on the surgeon’s experience and training. Transabdominal cerclage was done when vaginal approach has previously failed. Emergency cerclage has success rate 40% to greater than 65% which allow significant prolongation of pregnancy to avoid complication of the most extreme of premature births.
