The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the AcrySof phakic angle-supported phakic IOL for the correction of moderate to high myopia.Safety was assessed by comparing serial endothelial cell density measurements with the recorded losses due to other anterior chamber pIOLs in literature. The study was conducted on 33 eyes of 20 patients. Implantation of the AcrySof phakic angle-supported IOL was done for all patients. Best spectacle corrected visual acuity, the refractive status, clinical shape of the pupil, anterior chamber gonioscopy, endothelial cell counts, anterior chamber depth and the IOP were all evaluated in all patients. It was concluded that AcrySof angle-supported phakic IOL is an effective method for the correction of moderate to high myopia. It is safe on the corneal endothelium on the short-term. However, long-term evaluation is still needed before final conclusions are drawn.
