Abstract

This study included two hundred men divided into four groups according to their age and criteria of metabolic syndrome, as defined by WHO and subsequently refined by (ATP III guidelines, 2001).We evaluated the effect of metabolic syndrome on androgen level and sexual function in patients above and below fifty years old. Total testosterone, free testosterone, serum estradiol (E2), lipid profile, fasting blood glucose and semen analysis were done for all the patients. Patients with erectile dysfunction were subjected to ICI test & penile duplex. Conclusion., Metabolic syndrome is associated with lower serum androgen levels, increasing the incidence of vasclugenic erectile dysfunction and poor semen quality especially in old patients.
