Elbow joint is a complex joint and is considered as critical joint in the upper extremity as it places the hand in space away from or towards the body. The stiff elbow is challenging to treat, and thus, its prevention is of paramount importance. It is important to know the different causes that lead to elbow stiffness either traumatic or non-traumatic causes to facilitate the proper management of the stiffness. There are different trends for management of elbow stiffness including non-operative modalities and operative modalities. . Non-operative treatment is considered upon initial presentation in those who have minimal contractures of 6-month duration or less. If non-operative modalities are failed to manage elbow stiffness, operative treatment is appropriate either arthroscopic treatment or open surgical treatment. This essay will review the recent algorithms that plan the management of elbow stiffness.
