The aim of this work was to detect apoptosis in peripheral blood eosinophils and lymphocytes of asthmatic patients using flowcytometry. The study was conducted on 40 persons, 30 asthmatic patients, 10 healthy as control group. All subjects were submitted to the following: full history taking – clinical examination – chest x-ray – pulmonary functions CBC – urine, stool analysis – peripheral blood sample was collected in a test tube containing an anticoagulant and examined by flow cytometry. Regarding the results of this work: the following was observed: Eosinophil apoptosis in the peripheral blood was detected in both asthmatic and control groups but in a higher rate in the control than the asthmatic group. Lymophcyte apoptosis in the peripheral blood was detected in both asthmatic and control groups but there was no statistical significant difference between them.It was concluded that: Eosinophil apoptosis is delayed in asthma. No statistical significant difference regarding lymophcyte apoptosis in the peripheral blood in the examined groups.
