Recurrent varicose veins are the veins which persist after operation. Recurrence after treatment has been reported as being between 7% & 65%. Four main reasons for recurrence are identified ; (a) Insufficient under-standing of venous anatomy and hemodynamics, (b) Inadequate preoperative assessment, (c) Incorrect or insufficient surgery, (d) Development of new locations from superficial to deep insufficiency. Investigations include (a) Colour flow duplex (non-invasive) and (b) Phlebography (invasive). Treatment include (1) Advise the patient to wear light stocking, (2) Sclerotherapy, (3) Reoperation.
