Numerous techniques for internal fixation of the cervical spine have been developed in recent years. The indications for surgery must be strictly defined before the optimal type of implant can be selected on the basis of the advantages and potential risks. The current techniques include procedures of the upper cervical spine as occipitocervical fixation by triple wiring or plate fixation and atlantoaxial fixation by Modified Gallie fusion ,Brooks fusion, Segmental wiring fusion or transarticular screw fixation. The anterior approach techniques include anterior screw stabilization of the odontoid and anterior Cl-C2 screw stabilization. The techniques for the lower cervical spine includes triple wire fusion technique, interfacet wiring fusion technique and posterior cervical plating. The anterior approach techniques include anterior cervical plating fixation.
