Abstract

Dysphagia is a greek word that means disordered swallowing. dysphagia can be a serious threat to patient's health because of the risk of aspiration pneumonia, malnutrition, dehydration, weight loss, and airway obstruction. dysphagia may due to oral, pharyngeal, or esophageal causes. a proper history and careful physical examination are important in the diagnosis and treatment of dysphagia. many investigations as upper endoscopy, video fluoroscopic swallowing studies, and barium swallow have been accepted as the standard for detecting and evaluating swallowing abnormalities
