Cryptorchidism affects 3% of full term male newborns and 0.8% of male infants at 1 year of age. Impalpable testes represent 20% of all cases of cryptorchidism. The most important common complications of cryptorchidism are infertility and malignant transformation.Impalpable undescended testes offer a greater diagnostic and therapeutic challenge for the radiologist and the surgeon than palpable undescended testes. Ultrasono-graphy, computed tomography, testicular angiography and magnetic resonance imaging have all been used with varying success for localization of the testis. Recent surge of laparoscopic surgery encouraged many surgeons to use laparoscopy for both the diagnosis and management of impalpable undescended testes. The aim of this study is to present our experience at Kasr El-Aini Hospital, with laparoscopy as a superior single tool for the diagnosis and management of impalpable undescended testes in children.
