The developmental glaucomas are a group of disorders characterized by improper development of the eye's aqueous outflow system. Although the glaucoma may not manifest itself until adulthood, most developmental glaucomas are seen in infancy and childhood. Glaucoma in the infant is an uncommon disease, but the impact on visual development can be significant. Glaucoma drainage implant have been used successfully for the treatment of complicated glaucomas including neovacular glaucoma, aphakic and pseudophakic glaucoma, post penetrating keratoplasty glaucoma, uveitic glaucoma and refractory pediatric glaucoma. In conclusion, the Ahmed glaucoma valve implant appears to be effective in the management of infantile and juvenile glaucoma, despite its postoperative complications.
