Abstract

Osteoporosis is a condition of generalized skeletal fragibility in which bone is sufficiently weak that fracture occur with minimal trauma. Patient with postmenopausal osteoporosis may remain asymptomatic for considerable period of time. The patient most often presents herself for first time about 10 years or more after menopause. Recently; osteoporosis has become a public health problem discussed in scientific as well as nonscientific circles. Hormonal replacement therapy e.g estrogen, progestagens and other hormones e. g calcitonin, tibolone play important role in prevention and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Also non hormonal therapy e.g calcium supplementation, vit. D, Flouride, Bisphosphonates and others, play important role in prevention and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis.
